ePortfolio using Google Sites

I spent time learning about ePortfolios.  In the Show with Media article, it breaks ePortfolios as having three uses: storage, a workspace and a showcase.  Our district is has adopted Google App for Education so I immediately think of using the Google Drive, Google apps for reflection and Google Sites for a showcase.

Another article emphasized that student portfolios are most effective when they are used to evaluate student learning progress and achievement.  This reflection on work come through as so important.  This process is part of the learning and including the reflection in the portfolio is so important.

This then brings up what the portfolio is used for either as a Student portfolio vs. Student showcase. Student show case would house the student's best work where the Student portfolio would include the examples that show growth and include reflection.

I would like to focus on using G Suite for portfolios.  The Google Tribe Podcast had some points to support it.  Advantages of G Suite is that Google Sites integrates with all the application.  Students already have accounts for these resources.  Using Google Sites, the drag and drop interface makes it easy to use and very professional looking.

I would like to move forward and work with a group of teachers to start a small portfolio project. Thought would be to have work saved in the students Google Drive (probably in the their Google Classroom folder). The goal would be to do one project per marking period.  The project would include a reflection and students would post it to their Google Site.  I am excited as this work and will see how I can start through a collegial circle.

    You make an important distinction between portfolio and showcase. Sounds like a great plan! Hope you find the right partners to see how this will workout.

Formative assessment is a process and the articles that fit tools into categories or parts of this process were most helpful to me.  I looked at using Google Forms Quizzes, Socrative, and Kahoot all of which can be used to check for understanding. Carnival Infographic poster

Carnival Poster I worked on an infographic poster for a carnival school event. After working in both Piktochart and Canva, I got a feel for both of them.  The two posters are below. I found more free images that I liked.  It doesn't provide an embed code. You can post to facebook or get the link to your work.  Also to download the jpeg or a PDF, you need to pay for any of the images or templates that you used. I tried to use free images and didn't realize that I chose a template that costs $1. This poster will cost $1 which I will pay after I make final changes..Maybe this isn't that costly as a monthly upgrade on Piktochart is more expensive.
